On May 27th and 28th, 2004 The Center for Entrepreneurship
held it's second „Franchise from A to Z“ seminar. As
it was the case on the first one, the second seminar
gathered the companies and the individuals interested
in franchise business as both franchisors and the franchisees.
The
seminar consisted of 8 lectures addressing following
subjects:
Day one
The introduction to the franchise business
lecture included the presentation of Marko Bijelic-
franchisee for Forneti peciva d.o.o. He told the story
of how and why he entered the franchise business, his
process of making it work and the specifics of the
franchise business from his point of view...
Management, training, communication
lecture included the presentation of Gabrijela Grgić
Bartowski, marketing supervisor for Mc Donald's Hrvatska
d.o.o. who spoke about the education and the training
the potential McDonald's franchisees go through.
Your brand is your future - the lecture
is based on numerous good and bad examples of foreign
and domestic companies who managed to build their brand.
The purpose of this lecture was to realize the importance
of the brand in doing business, and the advantages
that the franchisee gets from the franchisor with the
right to use his brand.
Managing financial and other types of risk –
the representatives of Slavonska Banka d.d., Hypo Leasing
Kroatien d.o.o. and Allianz Osiguranje d.d. spoke about
the bank loan application process as well as leasing
as the alternative model of financing and also discussed
different forms of insurance.
Day Two
Legal framework of franchise business in
Croatia lecture was given by attorney Antun
Schmidt who spoke about the specifics of the franchise
agreement and it's similarities with other types
of agreements, the legal foundations...
The correct start: The importance of the business
plan – the lecture that addressed the business
plan from the franchise perspective and the specifics
of going into the business through the franchise
model.
Choosing the location – interesting
lecture that addressed the importance of the good location
for success in business. The knowledge from this lecture
could be applied for all aspects of doing business
not just the franchise.
The current reality and the future perspective
of the franchise business in Croatia – the
guest lecturer was Ljiljana Kukec, the president of Croatian
Franchise Association and business partnership. She
spoke about the efforts of the national associations
in promoting the franchise business in general. She also
presented her company Body Creator from Zagreb. The
company is a franchise and is looking for potential franchisees
within Croatia.

The idea of the seminar was to create the atmosphere
during the lectures where participants can discuss
their current efforts and possible obstacles they have
during the realization of their franchise ideas.
Good
hand-outs, lots of examples that made the understanding
of the subject easier, excellent organization, relaxed
atmosphere, expertise, friendly relationship are just
some of the impressions of the „Franchise from A to Z“
seminar's participants.
